It’s tag time! The fab Malka and Chana @ Paper Procrastinators (whose responses to this tag were awesome) tagged us to do the I Should Have Read That tag which was created by Beth @ Books Nest. This one hits close to home because both of us have reading lists the length of a continent, probably! (Our lawyers helped us with the wording of that joke.)
A BOOK THAT A FRIEND IS ALWAYS TELLING YOU TO READ
Hannah: My sister Sindi has recommended Margaret Atwood‘s The Blind Assassin to me a few times – I’ve read the first few chapters and really want to return to it ASAP.
Kyle: CAN EVERYBODY STOP TELLING ME ABOUT CITY OF ASHES ALREADY PLEASE AND THANKS.
A BOOK THAT’S BEEN ON YOUR TBR FOREVER, YET YOU STILL HAVEN’T PICKED IT UP
Kyle: Ted Dekker! I’m coming for you (eventually)! Been wanting to read the Circle series for nearly six years now… *can’t look face*
Hannah: Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. It’s on my bookshelf, just waiting for me, gazing at me with those doe eyes…
A BOOK IN A SERIES YOU STARTED BUT HAVEN’T GOTTEN ROUND TO FINISHING YET
Hannah: I started Christopher Paolini‘s Eragon cycle late last year (I know, I know: literal years after everyone else) and I’m halfway through, so I still need to read Brisingr and Inheritance this year! I also just started the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer and ADORED the first one, so that’s a series I’m excited to fly through!
Kyle: Joseph Delaney‘s Wardstone Chronicles were brilliant but after book 6, I felt the Spook needed to calm down, dude. I was into it when he had an apprentice, and a curse, as well as a secret, a battle, a mistake, a sacrifice etc etc…but 13 books later the spook IS STILL spooking. Next in the Spook’s series: The Spook’s Boredom,
The Spook’s Coffee, The Spook’s Bathroom Break… I might finish the series one day. However, I have no idea when that day will come.
A CLASSIC YOU’VE ALWAYS LIKED THE SOUND OF, BUT NEVER ACTUALLY READ
Kyle: Probably Melville‘s Moby-Dick, just to say I have read it. I’ll spend a few months really trying to understand it and then walk around all day quoting it to sound like I’m Lit with my Literature.
Hannah: Basically Jane Austen‘s three less-famous books – Persuasion, Mansfield Park and Northanger Abbey. I own them all; now I just have to read them. I reckon Kyle and I should have a speech-off where I pontificate like an Austen character and he spouts Melville-ian expatiations. No one will understand us; it’ll be excellent!!! *jots down idea in notebook full of ideas for future blog posts and videos* Votes in favour?
A POPULAR BOOK IT SEEMS EVERYONE BUT YOU HAS READ
Hannah: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I’d never heard of it until we started this blog, and now everyone here seems to be reviewing and raving about it! Why on Earth does she have so many husbands?! I really must know.
Kyle: Turtles All The Way Down by John Green! How has the entire population of the universe got their hands on this book but me?!
A BOOK THAT INSPIRED A FILM/TV ADAPTATION THAT YOU LOVE, BUT JUST HAVEN’T READ YET
Kyle: I’ve read book one of Game of Thrones and seriously would love to dive deep into the depths of Westeros (even though I have never watched the series…gasp)
Hannah: I’m a massive fan of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock, but haven’t read any of the Arthur Conan Doyle Sbooks! I also loved Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, but I haven’t picked up the Alias comic books.
A BOOK YOU SEE ALL OVER INSTAGRAM BUT HAVEN’T PICKED UP
Hannah: To be honest, I have been super slack with Instagram lately – something lame to do with having a job and needing sleep? Weird, huh? Anyway, the last book I remember seeing in eeeeveryone and their grandma’s photos was Circe by Madeline Miller.
Kyle: Is there a book called Repetitive Selfies? Because then yes, I’ve seen that all over the Insta G. I work in the world of physical therapy and rehabilitation, so that fills up 99% of my feed. Although I do remember spotting a wild Lauren Kate‘s Fallen book cover a few several times over in the natural habitat of social media.
